All our courses and groups are free, confidential and very friendly. Whatever you’re going through and however you’re feeling, you won’t feel judged, just supported by your Thinkaction mental health practitioner and other group members.

Coping With Depression Course

About the course

Depression is a common problem. An estimated 10% of people will experience it at some time in their lives (NICE, 2010). If you suffer from depression, you don’t have to suffer alone. This friendly and supportive group will enable you to learn useful skills for coping with your depression now and in the future.

You will learn how to:

  • Relax and ease your anxiety
  • Increase pleasant activities
  • Improve social activities
  • Develop more helpful ways of thinking
  • Be more assertive
  • Design your own self-change plan

What can I expect?

The course runs for four weeks and each session is two hours’ long with a short refreshment break. There are usually between 10 and 12 people on the course: men and women of different ages and backgrounds.

You’ll be given homework to complete between sessions. Research shows that if you’re able to find the time do this work you’ll get more out of the course.

Do I need to bring anything?

We’ll give you a book to use during the course which will back up what you are learning. We also recommend you bring a small pad and a pen.

Feel Well Live Well Group

About the group

Our Thinkaction Feel Well Live Well workshops are a set of classes designed to help you to manage your anxiety or depression. The workshops are based on cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) that will help you understand how your thinking impacts on how you feel, behave and communicate.

The group is designed to educate, encourage and inspire you, while using self- help materials, imagery, relaxation and interpersonal skills to help you improve your symptoms.

What can I expect?

The workshop runs for six weeks and we recommend you attend all sessions to ensure you get maximum benefit from the course. Each session lasts for two hours with a refreshment break in-between.

Do I need to bring anything?

No. We provide workbooks, pens and refreshments.

What do the workshops cover?

Session 1 – Introduction and first steps to wellbeing

Session 2 – Stress and anxiety

Session 3 – Sleep hygiene and stress reduction techniques

Session 4 – Low mood

Session 5 – Low self-esteem and assertiveness

Mums in Mind Group

About the group

Mums in Mind is a course for new mums who are experiencing problems with depression and/or anxiety following the birth of their baby.

It’s a great opportunity for you to meet other mums who are experiencing similar issues to you.

What can I expect?

These Thinkaction workshops are led by two female practitioners who are specially trained to support women with anxiety and depression, and who have a particular interest in perinatal mental health.

The course consists of six sessions lasting 1.5 hours each. It’s held in a family friendly venue and the atmosphere is supportive and relaxed.

Mums in Mind does not involve ‘group therapy’ but it’s a seminar-style space designed to help you learn together.

On the course, you’ll learn skills, strategies and techniques for everyday use, based on cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and compassion-focused therapy (CFT) approaches. If you practice them regularly outside of sessions, these techniques can be useful for managing your stress and low mood. The between session exercises are designed to be manageable and not too time-consuming.

Do I need to bring anything?

No. We provide workbooks, pens and refreshments.

What do the workshops cover?

Week 1: Introduction to the course and the compassion-focused approach; understanding post-natal depression and anxiety

Week 2: Nurturing and nourishing activities and everyday mindfulness

Week 3: Managing worry and rumination

Week 4: Exploring expectations and combatting self-criticism

Week 5: Relationships and communication

Week 6: Review of the course and planning for the future

Sleep Hygiene Course

About the Course

This 4 week course aims to help attendees to:

  • Achieve an understanding of sleep hygiene techniques
  • Understand the key principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
  • Learn and apply a range of strategies to help manage difficulties related to difficulties with sleep


Each week focuses on a different area as follows:

Week one: CBT introduction/ Sleep hygiene introduction

Week two: Relaxation/ Sleep hygiene techniques

Week three: Thoughts

Week four: Looking to the Future


In order to get the best out of the course, attendance at all dates is important. If you know you are unable to attend any of the above course dates, please let us know.

Tracking Your Progress

Questionnaires will be sent to your email address in advance for completion. Could you make sure that they are completed 24 hours prior to each appointment. If you prefer to complete a paper version of the questionnaires, please make sure to arrive 10 minutes earlier to the appointment.

What to Bring for the Course

You do not need to bring anything, but please feel free to bring a drink with you if you like. You may also wish to bring a pen and paper to make notes.
